Description

Photographed in the now.closed Virginia Aircraft Museum in 2006. After being on loan, This aircraft is now (2017) to be returned to the NASM Washington DC.
It was built in 1928 and was part of a group that flew to the South Pole, led by Lt Cdr Richard Byrd.It was later used to gather thousands of photographs in Antarctica, returning to the USA in 1935.It was then used for surveying in the US and Guatemala, being purchased by the NASM in 1961.It was restored in New York in 1989.
